It may seem funny this time of year, but for those of us who love the mountains (montanophiles? is that a word?) late spring is the best time to get up high and ski!
This weekend was cold and rainy in Basalt which means cold and snowy(!) at the top of Independence Pass, 30 miles east of here.
We hiked and skied 2 peaks on Memorial Day - Geissler Peak and an unnamed one at 13,500 feet. That's me slogging up the second peak on my skis and skins. It was steep and slow but beautiful once you got there!
Don't forget the sunblock! Yep, I got fried the day before on a really cloudy day so I have big white sunblock blotches but feeling great today. In fact, I am enjoying a cuppa' our latest crop of Assam tea - Even better than last year! Cheers!
